The Game of Life

One of my absolute favorite board games growing up was the game of Life. I loved to play it so much that my dad banned it from our family game nights.  My friends would play it with me when they visited, but mostly I just played it for hours by myself.  I don’t know why I loved it so much.  It just seemed fun to me. Every game was different with new careers, new families, big wins and huge losses. I enjoyed all of it and it was one of the few games that I kept from my childhood.

Last week, Cameron was looking for a board game to play.  He suggested Life.  Alina had been planning an older version than mine, which amazed me as I didn’t know there was one.  Cameron wanted to practice so he could challenge her to a game when he went back to Indiana.  He and I had a lot of fun playing our version and after a few rounds, he finally beat me.  As we were playing, Cameron suggested that we try Family Game Night 3 on the Wii as it had its own version of the board game Life. I didn’t remember that, but was willing to try it.  We were both super sad when we couldn’t find it.  Meg thought that maybe we sold it years ago, but I didn’t remember that either.

Thankfully, there was an exact copy on Ebay, and the seller offered to let me purchase it at a lower price  than he had listed it. I bought the game right away and today it arrived in the mail.  Cameron and I were both excited to try out it.  Although it wasn’t quite the same as the board game version, it was still a lot of fun.  As an added bonus, the Wii version also included Yahtzee, Clue, Mouse Trap, and Twister that we could play as well.  As much as I loved playing Life with Cameron, the best part wasn't the game or even the Wii game.  It was sharing some thing that I loved so much as child with one of my own.
