Today was Cameron's 19th birthday. It was very strange not to be with him. Meg must have felt the same as she made a fun post for him on Instagram. Cameron and I did make plans to celebrate in two weeks when Doug and I were back in Bloomington, but I was extremely grateful that Brett was available to take him to lunch and give him his and Cal's birthday gifts today. Both picked books that they thought Cameron would like - one on meditation and the other on investing. Cameron appreciated both and made plans to read them this semester. He also enjoyed going to lunch at Bucceto's, especially since they had vodka pasta on the menu. He and Brett talked for quite awhile before Cameron headed back to the dorm to watch the movie Wicker Man with a friend. He liked it more than I did and finished it just before the Lions game.
I talked to Cameron at halftime and we were both nervous about the game. Tampa Bay and Detroit were tied at 10 all. The Lions looked good, but just couldn't take the lead and run with it. Cameron was still pretty confident when he hung up, but he sounded a lot better when he texted me after the game. The Lions had held on to win 31-23. They would play the Ravens next Sunday for a chance to go to the Super Bowl. No matter the outcome of that game, Cameron had already received the best birthday gift of the day - a Lions victory.
