Graduation Day

Meg was at Mellencamp Pavillon bright and early this morning to line up for graduation.  She was one of the first to walk into Memorial Stadium which led to some wonderful pictures of her in the processional.  She sat in the second row with Sam Eagan.  They both talked about how awesome it was that they had known each other since they were four and were now graduating together.  It made me tear up to think about how hard Meg had worked to get to this point.

The ceremony was nice.  President Whitten opened the ceremony and we appreciated her enthusiasm for IU and the students graduating today.  The second speaker was also a big supporter of IU, but his speech got a little dry for me.  Brett and Doug enjoyed him nonetheless.  The student speaker had a lot of inside jokes that the audience didn't really respond to, but Meg understood.  We weren't really there for the speeches, however.  It was to watch Meg turn her tassel and "officially" graduate.

We all went to McAllister's for lunch after the ceremony.  We talked a lot about Meg's time at IU, her classes and time on campus.  We also spent some time going over the graduation ceremony.  All of us could agree that as much as we loved seeing Meg graduate, the most impressive part of the day was the National Anthem.  The Jacobs' student who sang it was absolutely incredible.  Meg also talked about the books that she had been reading and the shows that she had been watching.  She wanted to know which character that we identified with in the Harry Potter Series and our go to karaoke song.

After resting from our busy morning, we headed to Oliver Winery.  Doug had reserved a wine tasting for Meg, Nick, Brett and himself as a graduation celebration.  They all enjoyed learning more about wine and tasting a few of Oliver's favorites.  I don't really drink wine anymore, but loved hanging out with everyone.  Doug had also ordered us all small food plates that included some cheeses, nuts, and olives to try.  It was the perfect way to celebrate Meg and a great way to end our weekend in Bloomington.
