All week we heard about an impending storm that was to hit last night with high amounts of snowfall and extremely low temperatures. Doug and I kept watch of the weather, hoping that the forecast would change, but by Wednesday we realized that we had to prepare as the winter storm warnings were becoming a reality.
Since we knew that it was likely that we would be housebound for a few days with Christmas to follow, we felt that our first priority was to stock the house with groceries. Doug and I made a menu for Thursday through Monday and then worked on a grocery list. Once we finished, we next had to decide when we would be able to make a Walmart run before the snow and frigid temperatures arrived. After Cameron's basketball game was cancelled for Thursday night, Doug and I thought it was best to do all of our shopping Wednesday evening. Two carts full, $334, and a hour later, we had all of the shopping finished for the next few days.
Winter Storm Elliott started just as predicted when the snow began falling at 6 p.m. last night. It snowed throughout the evening and by 6 a.m. today, we had 3 inches of snow. That was a lot less than predicted, but still made for hazardous traveling due to the high winds. The negative 30 windchills did not help either. Thankfully, the weather really did not affect us as Cameron, Meg, Nick, Doug and I made the most of our time inside. We played games, watched movies, saw IU beat Kennesaw State and ate some of Doug's very delicious meals. Meg and Nick did get outside last night before it got too cold, but overall none of us left the house for over thirty-six hours. The grocery shopping and confinement to our house reminded me a lot of the lockdown during the pandemic, but fortunately we had an end in site as the storm was supposed to pass by Christmas Eve with temperatures rising above freezing early next week. If the power continued to stay on we would survive the first winter storm of the season without incident.
