Take the Long Way Home

Meg and I both slept in this morning.  My legs and feet were absolutely killing me after yesterday's visit to Epcot and Magic Kingdom.  It was nice to rest them.  Doug brought us the Pilot at 10:30 and after we dropped him off at Winco we spent the next couple of hours shopping.  It was a little challenging at first as there was a torrential downpour when we arrived at our fist destination, Marshall's.  Thankfully, the rain let up and we were able to find some great gifts at Marshall's, Barnes & Noble and Beall's.  We also had time to stop at eat lunch at McAllister's before we started packing for our trip home.

Doug wanted to leave early for Orlando as there had been long lines at the TSA check-in at the airport recently.  The check-in part was easy, the drive to the airport was not as it took us 20 minutes to drive 1.2 miles into the rental car area.  Thankfully, we were still able to get through security and eat dinner at the food court with an hour to spare before our boarding time.  Meg even had time to take a picture of one of the Orlando Airport's famous window boxes.

Unfortunately, our flight was delayed just before our boarding numbers were called.  There was a storm near Fort Lauderdale that kept our plane from arriving on time.  It was well after 10 p.m before we were seated on the plane for our 8:30 flight.  It took awhile for our airplane to take off, but we were still hopeful that we would land in Indy by 12:30 a.m.  Meg had already called Nick to see if he would pick her up in Indy this evening so she didn't have to drive home alone.  Doug had already napped an hour in the airport and was planning on sleeping during the flight as well.  Thus, I knew we had a very good chance of making it home without having to stay in a hotel once we landed.

The flight was packed with a few obnoxious fliers and a crying baby.  We did pretty well with it all once we took off.  Doug slept, Meg played a game on her phone and I watched a cheesy movie.  At 12:30 we were told that we would land in ten minutes.  I was excited about that until I realized that the ten minutes had gone by and that we were still hovering over the airport.  Another five minutes went by and I started to panic.  Circling the airport had made me nauseous and I became scared that we would crash.  Nick started texting Meg that the airport was packed and that was why it was taking so long.  It didn't relieve my flight anxiety at first, but in the end, I did ok with the extra twenty minutes of time in the air.  Doug never noticed a thing as he didn't even wake up until we landed.  Nick suggested that we tell Doug that we had been rerouted to a different airport.  That definitely would have woke him up.  I was more than happy that Doug did get the extra sleep on the plane as he was then able to drive home.  We arrived at 4:30 a.m., disappointed to be back in the cold, but happy to be home.
