Doug decided this summer to start downsizing our liquor cabinet. Instead of his traditional drink of choice, raspberry vodka with Diet Coke, he started using up the Tequila, rum and whiskey that we had stored above the refrigerator. None had very much in them and soon he was down to just a few random bottles left. Once I looked at them, I realized why he hadn't made any drinks with what was left. We normally used cinnamon and peppermint vodka in hot chocolate during the winter months.
Knowing that we couldn't really take bottles of half drank alcohol with us to Florida, I decided to turn to the internet for some recipes that Doug might like. The peppermint vodka was the easiest as it recommended mixing it with Dr. Pepper. Doug ran to the store and bought some Diet Dr. Pepper and we both enjoyed trying the new recipe.
The Cinnamon Vodka was a little bit harder. Almost all of the recipes that I found used the alcohol to make hot apple spiced cinnamon drinks. Neither of us were in the mood for the fall drinks. Thankfully, I finally found one that would work. It was listed as a Halloween mixer, but it worked perfectly for the summer (minus the spiders.). I found all of the ingredients at the grocery store and we each enjoyed a drink or two tonight while relaxing on the front porch. Not only did my research help us downsize the liquor cabinet, we had a lot of fun trying something new as well.
