Nick was home for a few days this week. As this was also Elkhart County Fair, Meg and Nick decided to spend an afternoon the famed event. They visited Nick's favorite animals - the cows, tried food at the Dairy Barn and rode a few rides including the scariest to me, the Ferris Wheel. They both had a lot of fun, but said that it was probably their last trip. The activities weren't quite as great as they remembered and it was a lot more expensive than they thought it would be. They were happy that they went, however.
Cameron, Alina and their friends also spent a day at the fair this week. They were met with a torrential downpour once they arrived, but thankfully, the storm passed through quickly and they soon had their wristbands on ready to tackle all of the rides at this year's Midway. They enjoyed the food, won prizes at the games and got a great deal on an extra large, refillable Root Beer to share. Although Cameron wasn't ready to say that it was his last trip to the fair, he did acknowledge that it wasn't quite what he thought it was when he was younger.
Overall, I was glad that Meg and Cameron decided to spend a day at one of their favorite childhood places. It brought back a lot of memories for me as fair week was my absolute favorite part of summer when I was growing up. Brett must have felt the same way as he texted Doug, Grandma, Grandpa and I about how much he enjoyed going to the fair when he was a child. He had spent several days at the Monroe County Fair working in the local Republican Party booth this year, and had enjoyed it very much. I was definitely thankful to hear all of their stories. It was a great way for me to say goodbye to the county fair.
