Today would have been Jeanette's 74th birthday. With every passing year since her death we have missed her more and more. The other day Cam and Meg were playing Christmas songs together on the piano. She was helping him work on a challenging piece. It was a heartwarming moment for me and I took the picture below. Instantly I thought that I wanted to send it to Jeanette. I knew that was impossible, but I sure hoped that even if she couldn't see them that she could still here them play.
This wasn't the first time since her death that I wanted to update her on the Heinisch children's daily activities. She was a big advocate of fostering their interests. When Cal became obsessed with the Flying Illini, she sent him articles and taped games for him to watch at her house. She knew that Brett loved watching movies and would have a new one for him to view with her each time he visited. He still has the copy of The Rescuers that they watched together. Meg was the crafty one and she and Jeanette spent hours making projects of all different sizes, from ornaments to blankets. Cam loved to tell her golf stories and drew her many pictures when they were apart. She framed the last one that he sent to her when she was ill and put it by her bed so that she could remember him on a daily basis. It is still on display in our home now. Jeanette was the first person that we called when one of the four had a shining moment as she was always proud of their successes. Her support and words of encouragement were so much appreciated. Today and everyday the Heinisch family misses her gentle spirit. Happy Birthday Grandma Heinisch!
