Nick's Baptism

Today we celebrated Nick's baptism with his family and friends.  The ceremony was held at his uncle's lake cottage in Union, Michigan.  Meg had been there several times, but it was our first trip to the area.  It was beautiful and the perfect setting for a baptism with the lake behind him.  His aunt and uncle officiated the ceremony.  They had been his pastors throughout Nick's childhood and their statements made it feel even more personal than usual.  The baptism placed a lot of attention on Nick and he handled it very well.  It was different than our traditional Catholic one especially with Nick's age, but we found it wonderful just the same.  Nick was proud of taking the next step in his faith journey and we were happy for him.  It was also a nice way for us to meet his aunts and uncles.  Everyone was extremely friendly and we were glad to spend the afternoon with them.

Meg and Nick celebrated with dinner at Portillo's.  Alex and Rachel joined them for their night out.  Afterward Meg and Nick watched The Jungle Cruise at our house and liked it just as much as the rest of us did.  Nick left for Purdue around10 p.m. as he had to work tomorrow and start pilot classes on Monday.  It was a wonderful last day of summer vacation for the two of them.  We were glad to be a part of it.
