Freshmen Orientation

Tonight was Freshmen Orientation for Cameron.  It was definitely different than I had experienced with the older three Heinisch children.  First of all it was smaller.  Secondly, it was quicker and finally we did not tour the school as we already knew where everything was.  Cameron picked the traditional classes for his freshmen schedule and I was alright his choices.  I probably would have suggested a few changes, but overall felt he was prepared for the next four years.  The state of Indiana had drastically changed it's graduation requirements and for the first time in a long time graduates will no longer have to take the ISPTEP or an end of class assessment to graduate.  It won't really change much for Cameron as he will still follow the college prep route, but for some students it will allow them graduate instead of receiving a certificate stating that they had attended high school.  It was definitely easier to be laid back about this orientation as we trust those in charge of his education. The only challenging part of the evening was thinking of Cameron as a freshmen.  All of us at times over this past school year have still thought of him as that fifth grader that started Bethany four years ago.  I know that with him as the only Heinisch child left at home next year, that will really start to change.  We are looking forward to enjoying his high school years.
