The hype around IU basketball has been huge this year. Their best player from last year's team decided to return and in all honesty has a legitimate chance at being named Big Ten Player of the year this season. Trayce Jackson Davis, along with two new freshmen and several other returning seniors makes this the best team that we have had since Cal started college in 2016. Mike Woodson has done a great job promoting the team and enhancing the enthusiasm for the Hoosiers. This week he had Bobby Knight at one of the practices as well as several former players.
Tonight's game against North Carolina was played at Assembly Hall. It was great to watch the crowd back the team and to see Cody Zeller, Christian Watford and many more recent IU grads in attendance. The fans were loud and slightly obnoxious, but still fun. The team asked for it to be a white out and it definitely was as every person in Assembly Hall wore white including one person dressed as a panda bear. I thought that had to be intimidating to the few dressed in Carolina Blue.
Doug, Cameron and I watched the game together. IU was dominate throughout. When Doug went to bed at halftime the Hoosiers were up by 6, but it felt like more than that. The home team came out on fire in the second half and led until the end. TJD outplayed all of North Carolina's big men and the guards lit it up from outside. Although we won by 12, the best part of the game was knowing that we actually had a team to get behind this year. That will make our last winter in Indiana a lot more exciting.
