Today Doug and I met at St. John's Evangelical church for Richard's funeral service. Cameron had left before I did. He and his friends had been asked to be pallbearers. A private donor had rented white matching tuxes for the eight of them and they looked very nice at the front of the church. The service was done primarily in Spanish, but Father did provide an English translation during his homily. We appreciated the reminders that Richard had been baptized in Christ, confirmed in Christ and was with Christ now. The service was well attended by the Bethany community. We had appreciated their support these past two weeks. It was impressive to see how they had lifted up Richard's family and friends during this difficult time.
Doug had to leave after the service for a work call. I walked to the funeral home to watch the balloon ceremony. It was beautiful. Richard's family and friends each wrote messages to him on the purple and white balloons and released them all at once. Connor pointed out to everyone that the balloons took off straight for Richard's home. That was wonderful to see. Cameron told me afterward that he finally felt some closure. I was glad to hear that he had found peace at least for a little while.
Cameron left the funeral home for golf practice at Meadowvalley. I was thankful that he had an organized activity to attend this afternoon. It had been a long couple of days of mourning. A break from it was just what I thought he needed.
