A Wonderful Start to the Weekend

The weather was absolutely beautiful today which helped to make this an awesome start to the weekend.  This morning, we had Cameron's golf tournament at Black Squirrel.  It was the first one of the summer season and he was feeling very good about it.  He teed off at 8:18 a.m. and I arrived in time to walk the back nine with him.  He said that he was playing very well, but started off the round with an eight on the first hole.  I encouraged him to hang in there as he had parred ten and eleven and definitely had a chance to finish in the top three.  On thirteen Samuel and Avery joined Cameron's gallery and by the seventeenth hole we had added Matthew.  Cameron continued to play well.  He was three down to one of his opponents going into sixteen, but an errant drive from one and consistent playing from the other lead to Cameron beating him on the eighteenth hole by one.  I was impressed, but even more excited when I saw that he had shot an 84 and was tied for first.  They took the boys out to eighteen for a playoff hole and it was over before it even started as Cameron's opponent hit his drive out of bounds.  Cameron stayed calm and finished with a par to win by two strokes.  It was a lot of fun to watch.

By the time I arrived home, Cal had finished with work for the day.  He decided to walk down to pick up his car.  It was more expensive than we thought it would be, but it did sound a lot better.  Meg had spent her afternoon packing for Chicago.  She got a lot done while I was gone.  Cameron hung out at Samuel's for the afternoon playing corn hole.  He made it home before we left for dinner.

Doug's day of travel was long, but he made both flights and arrived home by 4:30.  We were all very glad to see him as we really thought that he would end up delayed or have to drive home from Orlando or Kansas City.  The five of us went to Goshen Brewing Company for dinner.  Cal and Meg had never been there, but enjoyed it very much.  I was thankful to have everyone join us.  Cameron let us know on the way home that he had inherited the family "clutch" gene.  This led to a debate on who he inherited it from in the family.  Doug suggested Uncle Dan, but we were pretty sure that wasn't it.  I was positive that it was Doug as he was the one who scored in a shoot out to got to Regionals in high school soccer.  We decided to let Uncle Phil decide.  He said that the only thing anyone could inherit from his brother, Dan, was an "injury gene."  We thought that was funny.  Phil did agree with me that Doug would have the "clutch gene."

Nick arrived shortly after we got home.  He and Meg went to his home for the night.  Cal and Cameron played corn hole until dark and then we brought out the big screen.  We watched The Grey, a thriller staring Liam Neeson.  They liked it as much as we did when we first saw it.  Watching it outside made it even better.  It was a fun way to end a wonderful day.
