It was a cold and dreary start to the Memorial Day weekend as the temperature never reached above 50 degrees yesterday and we received well over an inch of rain. It was still cool this morning, but started to warm up in the afternoon. Rain or shine none of us let the weather affect our plans. Cal went to Indianapolis to hang out with his friends and enjoy the Indy 500 weekend race activities. He texted us several times to let us know that he was enjoying himself. Cameron spent last night at Samuel's with Richard and Avery joining them. They traveled with Sam's family to Fort Wayne this morning to watch him compete in a triathlon. Samuel placed well finishing 1st in his age group and 8th overall. They celebrated with lunch at the Hoppy Gnome. Brett kept busy after work inviting Sean and Norman over for breadsticks and a movie. Meg and Nick went to Papa Vino's yesterday. It was their first time eating inside a restaurant since they both had been vaccinated. Today, Meg went with her friends to Jackie and Naomi's open houses and had a bonfire afterward at our home with Rachael, Phillip, Nick, Alex and Angel.
While everyone was busy, Doug and I enjoyed a Ticket to Ride tournament. We started last night and by the time we resumed this afternoon I was up 4-2. I knew my lead wouldn't last and soon Doug had tied me at 4 games a piece. We took a break for dinner. I was really nervous playing the last two games, England and Pennsylvania, as Doug usually beat me at those. We played England first and it was really intense. Because of the toll payments, I couldn't really tell who was in the lead. In the end we finished in a complete tie. I could only remember one other time that that had happened. Since I thought that I would lose England, I was glad to at least still have a chance to win with Pennsylvania. I wasn't very confident about it, however, as Doug won that game a lot. Thankfully, the game wasn't as close as it had been in the past and soon I was claiming victory giving me the overall championship. Even if I hadn't had won, I had a lot of fun playing. It was the perfect activity for the cool start to Memorial Day weekend.
