Cal texted both Doug and I this morning to let us know that he passed the final portion of the CPA. I don't know if Cal could tell from our replies, but we were both thrilled for him. He had worked hard and it had paid off. We couldn't have been prouder. Cal would still have to take an ethics exam to get his certificate, but that would be nothing compared to what he had just accomplished. Passing the test this early into his career not only alleviated a lot of stress for him, but also earned him a nice bonus from Plante Moran.
Doug and I spent quite a bit of time this evening reminiscing about how Doug found out that he passed the CPA twenty-nine years ago. He was on a fishing trip in Canada with his Dad and brothers. There was limited phone access in the remote area that they were staying. He finally got a chance to call his mom mid-week to see if he had received the results. She was more than happy to read him his passing scores. Just like with Cal's news, I had never doubted that Doug wouldn't pass. I was a firsthand witness to the amount of time they both had spent studying. It was stressful then; it was stressful now. Incredibly relieved that neither have to go through that again.
