For the past few months Doug and Cameron have talked about going to see the IU vs MSU game in East Lansing. With tennis, our plans to meet Grandpa Heinisch in Chicago for dinner and the rest of the IU football schedule on our agenda we weren't sure that we would be able to make it work. Thankfully, there were no conflicts and this morning at 9:45 a.m. the three of us were on our way to Michigan State.
Doug and I had been to MSU once before when Cal was in 7th grade and playing travel basketball. We knew that the football stadium was on campus, but we weren't sure about the ease of tailgating and parking. We arrived three hours early and there were a lot of tents already set up, but fortunately, they had plenty of room for us. Our IU tent was definitely out of place among all of the green, but everyone that we met was extremely nice. We made lunch of summer sausage, hummus, and bread while playing several games of washers. It was quite a different atmosphere than tailgating at IU. There were a lot of college students, but the amount of drinking was definitely quite a bit less. Most of those in the fields were actually there to see the football game.
The stadium was packed and the crowd was really involved in the game. I hadn't sat through an entire college football game in quite some time. I definitely picked the right one to do so. It was back and forth from the first touchdown. With two minutes left and the score tied at 31 - 31 it looked as though the game was heading to overtime. Unfortunately for the small amount of Hoosier fans in attendance, Michigan State connected on a pass down field setting them up for a last second field goal to win the game. We were disappointed in the outcome, but impressed with Penix's return to the field. Cam was positive that #9windiana was a definite possibility.
