It was a quiet Father's Day at the Heinisch home today. Cal had to work and Meg left for basketball camp in Vincennes at 7 a.m. this morning. Even though it was only Doug, Cam and I for the majority of the day it was still a nice celebration of Doug's life as a father. We went to see The Incredibles 2, watched World Cup soccer, and stayed on top of the US Open scores. My parents came up later in the day for dinner and Cal and HM got here in time for some badminton. Doug appreciated his typical Father's Day gifts - a Lincoln book, beer with a new mug and salsa.
Although Brett was busy in DC, he found time to call to wish Doug a happy day and wrote a nice post on Facebook honoring his father and grandfathers. I know that all four of the Heinisch children think the world of their father. They all like to tease him about being cheap or giving them "throw up" lectures, but each one has told me how much they appreciate the support he has shown them over the years. I could not ask for a more patient, supportive, and hard working father for my children. Doug has proven his loyalty and devotion to our family time and time again. He has been the best role model that any child could ask for and we all feel blessed to have him in our lives. On this day and everyday I wish Doug all the best that the world could offer him.
