We arrived in time today to meet Brett for lunch at We, The Pizza. It was great to catch up with him and the food was as good as we remembered. After visiting for awhile we all piled into the Pilot and drove to Mount Vernon. It was hotter than last year, but thankfully less crowded. The tour was the same as we remembered, but we were glad to have taken it. Doug, Brett, Cam and Meg also walked down to the Potomac. I opted out of that hike and instead hung out in the shaded area of the slave memorial.
Once we left the Washingtons' home we went to the Pentagon City Mall. We didn't buy anything, but it was a nice break from the heat. It dropped from 100 to 95 by the time we reached Arlington National Cemetery. I made it to the Kennedy graves, but decided from there to wait on everyone else. It was just to hot and hilly for a long walk for me. Doug and Cam made it to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Brett met them at the grave of Joe Louis and Meg stayed with me resting in the shade.
We picked Bonefish Grill for dinner and everyone found something delicious on the menu. The wait was long, but our waiter was funny so we didn't mine. We also found a nail in our back tire when we drove into the parking lot which answered why our tire pressure light had come on. Doug talked to a 24 hour repair service. They met him in the lot while we waited for our food and within ten minutes the tire was repaired. It was close to 8 by the time we left Arlington. We decided that it was a good time for a night walk around the monuments. We didn't make it to all of them, but we were able to visit FDR's, Martin Luther King Jr's, the Korean War Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial and the Vietnam Wall before calling it a night. It was an exhausting day, but a great start to a DC visit.
