Three years ago yesterday Meg was in the oral surgeon's office having four wisdom teeth and four baby teeth removed. It was a painful process, but was important in her first steps of getting braces. Before Meg's junior year, we had never even considered Meg needing braces. Her teeth were straight and her baby teeth fit in well for her missing permanent teeth. All of that changed when she turned sixteen as her teeth shifted. That's when her front incisor began to protrude and the orthodontist was fearful that it would become fractured if bumped.
Thus, Meg began her braces journey in February of 2019. There were times that it was frustrating and times when it was bearable. Meg followed all of Dr. Dellinger's instructions, but still had delays in her treatment. The first was caused by an infection that developed after her oral surgery, the second was when her rubber bands overcorrected her bite and last one stemmed from the pandemic. She told me multiple times that she just wanted to be done by the time she graduated from college. Today she got her wish. Not only was she done with braces, but she no longer had to wear her retainer during the daytime. Meg was excited and I was relieved. We were both nervous that another delay would happen this morning at her appointment, but fortunately that was not the case. Of course she tried to make Nick believe otherwise, but even he didn't believe that she would have to endure more orthodonture work. All of us were extremely happy about that.
