One of the best parts about Doug working in Florida this winter has been his availability to visit his dad. When he saw him last month, Carl was in the rehab facility in Winter Haven after having heart bypass surgery in December. Today, they were able to get together at Carl and Marina's home in Lake Placid. Doug was very happy to have been able to make the trip down from Ocala. Carl was feeling a lot better. His bout with pneumonia was over and he was able to get up and move on his own, just a little slower than before. Carl made chili for their lunch and was proud to talk about the fourteen minute walk that he had taken the day before their visit. Doug was glad to see that his dad had started the gardening puzzle that we had gotten him for Christmas and also enjoyed their golf cart ride. They made plans to get together in March in Ocala when Meg and I could be there as well.
Doug called on his way back to Ocala. He sounded happy and I was glad that not only had he gotten to see his dad, but that he had gotten a break from work as well. It has been a stressful winter for Doug and he has put in a lot of hours. He said that he was going to stop at brewery that he had tried before in Winter Haven, and then go to another one in downtown Ocala. Between today and his James Bond movie fest with pizza from Piesano's last night, I know that he was enjoying himself. That was really nice to hear.
