Wait, Dad's 51?

We celebrated Doug's 51st birthday last night with Cameron and my parents.  We let Cameron pick the timing of the celebration as he had made plans with his friends on the 4th.  It was a nice celebration starting with mini golf and Evil Czech.  Once we got home, Doug opened up his gift from Meg - an air fryer.  She had really wanted to get him one as it cooks a lot healthier than a traditional pan frying.  He's really looking forward to trying it out.  Cameron chose a Netherlands soccer shirt for him.  We had hoped that he could wear it while they played in the next round of the Euro cup, but unfortunately, they lost unexpectedly early.  Doug still appreciated the shirt and will get good use out of it in the future.  My parents got him a Disney gift card this year which he could use next Saturday at EPCOT.  It was the perfect trip for his travels.  With so many great presents already picked out this year, I decided to go low key and stick with the traditional ones - a four pack of Moscow Mules and Ghirardelli raspberry chocolates.  We ended the evening "letting" Doug win at Oh Hell!

Cal was busy last night with Hannah-Marie, so he caught up with us this morning.  We enjoyed visiting with him and playing a game of Racko before he headed back over to the Lamles.  Meg called while we were playing cards to wish her Dad a happy birthday.  I know that she wanted to come home for it, but we talked her out of it as we really didn't have any big plans for the weekend and she really wanted to study.  It also gave her a chance to work at Bell Trace today with the added bonus of time and a half pay for the holiday.  Brett talked to his Dad as well on his drive to Illinois.  He only had today off from work, so he decided to spend it at Rachel's instead of home.  He enjoyed his day as well and was looking forward to seeing Doug on the 17th.

With everyone gone or busy today, Doug and I had a nice day together.  He wanted to go to Goshen Brewing Company as we hadn't been there since the pandemic started.  It had changed quite a bit and we really liked the atmosphere.  It was hot, but we still enjoyed sitting outside.  We tried a few places in Goshen afterward to eat lunch, but nothing was open due to the holiday.  We decided to head back to Syracuse and try Oakwood.  Thankfully, we were able to get a table under the canopy and enjoyed a nice late lunch by the lake.

Cameron arrived home shortly after we did.  He, Samuel and Richard went to Mishawaka for lunch and a few rounds of Putt Putt.  Avery joined them on the way back to our house and the four of them had fun  eating pizza, playing board games and several rounds of basketball in the driveway.  Doug dropped them off at Syracuse beach just before dusk so that they could watch the fireworks.  While they were gone we set the big screen back up for a bonfire and movie once again.  Doug picked "Breakdown" for tonight's viewing.  It was a thriller starring Kurt Russell.  We saw it in the theaters when it first came out in 1997.  We didn't really remember a lot of it, but definitely enjoyed it.

Cam and his friend walked back once the fireworks ended.  They said that they were kind of lame, but they had a lot of fun anyway.  I was glad to hear that and told them that they could have just stayed home and "enjoyed" the neighborhood fireworks as much as we did.  Either way it was a wonderful day celebrating Doug's birthday, even if Cameron could not believe that his Dad was only 51!!
