A Rare Treat

Doug was out the door at 6 a.m. this morning as he wanted to get in a full day of work before we left for Orlando.  Our check-in at Port Orleans was at 3 p.m. and we were hoping to get the most of our one night stay.  Although Doug and I had been to Disney World multiple times since we got our annual passes, we hadn't stayed overnight together in over a year.  We decided in January to take advantage of the annual pass discount and book a stay at our new favorite moderate hotel on property as a late Valentine's Day celebration.

Doug worked a little later than he had expected, but we were still able to get into our room by 4:30.  The view of the Sassagoula River was gorgeous.  We walked from our room to the hotel lobby to check out their store and restaurants.  I had seen it all in January when I was there with Nick, Meg and Cameron, but Doug had not taken the tour.  He was just as impressed with the hotel's amenities as we were several months ago.

We caught a bus to Disney's Hollywood Studios with plans to share some food and drinks at the Baseline Tap House.  The pretzel and charcuterie board were delicious and we each got a beer to try.   It was the perfect night to sit outside, enjoy some food and people watch.  Our next stop was a little more stressful.  We wanted to ride Toy Story Mania as Doug was sure that this would be the night that he beat me.  The ride was closed for awhile due to technical difficulties.  They did open up, but the line was very long.  Thankfully, we made it through with plenty of time for our next adventure - Oga's Cantina.  Doug even had time to recover from his huge loss at his favorite Hollywood Studios' ride before they called our name.

The Cantina was just as awesome as when we visited with the Heinisch children in 2020.  The Star Wars theme was perfect, especially since I had just finished the first two episodes of The Mandalorian.  We each tried a fun drink (mine had a spicy foam that we both enjoyed) and then had Rodian Ration - a fun dessert with "wart frog eggs."  We thought about going on Mickey's Runaway Railway before we left the park, but the line was too long.  Instead we headed to Port Orleans French Quarter to try the beignets.  They were awesome.  We ended the night at the piano bar back at Riverside.  The "piano man" was fantastic and we absolutely loved the entertainment.
