When Cameron and I planned to meet Doug in Ocala this weekend, the main priority was for Cameron to get in a few rounds of golf. He hadn't played since tennis season started last August and was anxious to shake the rust off. There were over ten courses to chose from in Ocala and we decided upon one in a 55+ community called SummerGlen. It was priced right, wasn't too long and would let the guys play nine holes, which Cameron really wanted for his first round.
I dropped Doug and Cameron off early for their 1:30 tee time. There were a lot of people on the course, but they were still able to finish their round in two hours. Both were pleased with how they played for their first time out. Cameron shot a 50 which was ten strokes better than his first round last spring. Doug didn't keep score, but thought that he would be closer to a sixty. Cameron was glad to hear that as Doug had beaten him last year when they first played. They said that the course was shorter than Maxwelton, but had some challenging holes. They had to get used to the soil which was more sand than dirt. The greens were in good shape with the pins in some difficult spots. The battery in Cameron's range finder died on one of the first holes. That added a new challenge to the round. Overall, they were both happy with how their first nine of the season and couldn't wait to play again tomorrow.
