One of Meg's items on her Spring Break list was to visit with Grandpa Heinisch. She had talked to him multiple times while at school last fall and wanted to catch up with him in person while she was in Florida. We had talked about going to see him in Lake Placid, but Carl and Marina really wanted to come to Ocala. They had friends from DeKalb staying in On Top of the World this winter and thought it would be the perfect time to see them as well. They arrived yesterday afternoon and enjoyed an afternoon visiting with their friends and touring Ocala.
We met up with Carl and Marina late this morning. With our delayed trip yesterday and the spring forward time change from Daylight Savings time today, Meg, Doug and I weren't ready for an early morning wake up call. Carl filled us in on his recovery from open heart surgery. He was still managing the after effects of having major surgery, but overall was doing pretty well. He had some mobility issues, but otherwise was able to keep up with all of our plans today.
Doug took us all to McAllister's for lunch. We tried to go to Tijuana Flats, but it was closed due to the tornado. We definitely saw a lot of branches down and even trees uprooted in the shopping plaza with the restaurants. Lunch was very good. Afterward we showed Carl where Doug worked and then stopped by The World Equestrian Center. Meg was impressed with the size of the arena. We then drove through Sholom Park before Carl and Marina had to go back to the hotel to change rooms and to rest. While they were gone, the three of us went back to Sholom Park for a long walk. Meg loved the park as much as we did.
We picked Carl and Marina back up at 5:30 for dinner tonight. We decided to show them downtown Ocala. The drive through all of the horse farms was beautiful. We did see more debris from the tornado, but there was none of the building damage that was on the other side of town. Dinner was nice and we really enjoyed our visit. We made plans to visit with Carl and Marina again at Addie's graduation in May.
