Last night Meg came upstairs to ask us if we had heard anything about KeShawn being in an accident. When we told her that we hadn't, she said that Joey's brother posted something on social media that made everyone think that Shawn had been died. Just as Meg didn't believe that was true, I didn't either. I was sure that there was a misunderstanding or that someone else with the same name had been in accident. Unfortunately, we found out shortly after her initial question that the post was accurate and Shawn had died in a car accident Saturday afternoon. The rest of the night was a blur filled with tears and the repeated statement "this just can't be true."
Shawn was Meg's first friend at Bethany. He made her transition to the new environment so much easier. They were constantly singing, laughing or arguing about something trivial. They would joke about their four day fling that ended when he got back together with his longtime girlfriend and she confessed that she really had a crush on Nick. I thought of all of the pictures of Shawn and Meg that I had on our photo stream. They were always smiling. In actuality I had more of the two of them then I did of Meg and Nick.
It was a rough night for Meg as she only slept a couple of hours. She spent the majority of the day crying. She heard from a lot of her friends both from Bethany and Wawasee. She appreciated the video that Izzy sent her from last year's Prom work day of Meg and Shawn singing "Somewhere on a Beach." It was definitely the bright spot of the day. The seniors all met at Bethany this evening to support one another. Although it made her cry even more, she was glad that she went. Today was tough and I believe tomorrow will be even more difficult for her. I am hopeful that she will be able to sleep some tonight. Between the pain of her teeth and the sadness of the weekend, she hasn't gotten much rest.
