We were out the door by 7 a.m. this morning. We didn't wake Brett up to say goodbye, but we did get to see Meg before we headed out. She definitely would have liked to go with us, but with all of her coursework and Nick's birthday it wouldn't have been the best week for her to be gone. I was glad that we had taken her to Florida in March and that she already had a return trip planned for May.
The first part of our trip was relatively easy. We drove a new route since we left from Bloomington which took us through Evansville. We made it out of Indiana, through Kentucky and Tennessee without any issues. We made a few pit stops and Doug had a work call to take, but otherwise it was uneventful. Unfortunately, that could not be said about Georgia. The closer we got to Atlanta the slower our trip became. We were hoping that since we were going through the city close to noon that we would miss a lot of the traffic, but no such luck. Construction, accidents, lane closures, detours and spring break traffic delayed us through the mid park of the state. Atlanta was by far the worst, but but the rest of the state wasn't much better.
Thankfully, it started to clear up as we reached the first destination of our spring break trip - Buc-ee's. Meg had made us promise that we would take Cameron when we went on his spring break trip. I talked about it all of the way down and read every billboard about it along our route. I don't know if it measured up to the hype, but everyone was impressed with how big it was. Cameron got the refillable 52 ounce Buc-ee's mug and a brisket sandwich before we headed out. The rest of our trip was traffic free and we were in Ocala by 9:15 p.m. We were all glad to be out of the car. Doug picked up Marco's pizza for dinner and we enjoyed some time relaxing before we went to bed.
