I was incredibly pleased that Cal's last day in Florida was absolutely beautiful. Even though it had snowed in Chicago today, it reminded Cal that it would be spring soon in the Midwest. He took full advantage of the sunshine by taking a long walk at lunch. I kept the windows open while he worked and enjoyed the last few moments that he was here very much. We even squeezed in another Twilight Zone before we left for Orlando.
On our way, we were rerouted off of the turnpike. It took a little bit longer, but Cal said that he liked the drive a lot better as he got to see the scenic parts of Central Florida that were missed on the interstate. He said that it reminded him of rural Indiana or parts of Michigan. I agreed wholeheartedly.
Because of our detour, Doug beat us to Rock N Brews. Thankfully, we had left early and still had plenty of time to eat dinner together and talk about all different kinds of things, including the ability to make small talk, IU's chances of winning tomorrow and Maggie's mom's surprise birthday party this weekend. It was a wonderful way to end Cal's week in Florida.
I thought that I would cry when I dropped Cal off at the airport, but for the first time in my life, I didn't. I think that it was because I knew that he was ready to get back to his life in Chicago. I had spent a lot of time with him and realized that was a wonderful treat at his age. Instead, of crying on the way home, I thought about all of the fun that I had had while he was here and looked forward to Easter, our next planned visit to Chicago.
