Today was a day of endless activity for the Heinisch sports trio. Cam started the day with an 8 a.m. soccer game. His team won easily 4-1. Cam made the play of the day at goalie. He put his body in front of a hard shot on goal. The ball flew straight up and he caught it over his head. He was able to hold onto it as he fell backwards saving the goal. Everyone cheered.
Meg had the next soccer game and despite hurting her back in the first couple of minutes stopping an approaching opponent, she was able to score two goals in their 5-3 victory. My Mom said her favorite was when Meg took the ball from the defense to score. Meg was extremely excited as she has never scored two goals in one game.
Cal had the longest sporting event of the day as he teed off around 9 a.m. and did not finish until close to 2 p.m. Because his invitational was at South Shore we were all able to join in his gallery at different times. I started out the day, Dad and Mom came out halfway through the first nine and then Doug, Meg and Cam were able to end the match. We were all extremely proud of Cal. He shot an 84 which probably doesn't sound like a great round, but the fact that he overcame a first nine 46 to shoot a 38 on the back was just awesome. It would have been easy to throw in the towel and give up, but he didn't. Except for one challenging hole and an errant drive on the back he played almost flawlessly. The team did not finish as high as they hoped in the end - 8th out of 16, but we all left feeling that Tuesday will be a different night at the Joe Harris shootout in Warsaw.
