Today was the last day of school for Meg, Cam and Cal. All three were more than ready to be finished with the school year and start on summer vacation. Meg's day was by far the most eventful. The morning started with awards and graduation. Meg received the PE certification, recognized for winning the Spelling Bee, earned all A's this year, was a two sport academic honors athlete and was given a trophy for being a recipient of The Presidential Excellence Award. 8th graders were also highlighted in a slide show and walked across the gym floor to be recognized as graduates. The best moment of the program, however, was when Meg realized that she was going to win the Department Award for Band. The look on her face was priceless. With all of the grief Mrs. Skow has given her since Spring Break and the fact that she and six of her friends were kicked out of class on Tuesday everyone was as shocked as Meg when her name was announced. The rest of the afternoon was spent at the Adventure Race at Camp Mack. Meg's team came in second. I thought that was awesome as it was a challenging course.
Cam's last day was filled with activities revolving around a Native American speaker. When I arrived in the gym to check on him they were all busy making wallets out of leather. He did a nice job on his and did not need any of my help. I spent time helping a lot of his classmates instead and enjoyed being with him on his last day at Milford. He was more than ready to be done with school and is really looking forward to trying something new next year.
Cal had a project due in AP History that he also was glad to finally be done with. He spent a lot of time on it the past few days. He texted Mom this morning and asked her if she would bring him three large fries from Burger King. He didn't tell her why he needed them, but something fun must have been going on during Spanish class. Tonight was the much anticipated match with Columbia City. Cal got to play #1 and had at least ten members in his gallery. They almost pulled off the upset losing by only one stroke. The highlight for us, however, was watching all of his friends there to support him. They are one close group. After all of the scores were tallied he and his friends were off to Hacienda to celebrate the end of another successful year and the start of life as seniors.
