Brett went to his second career fair of the week today. He has one more meeting tomorrow and already a dozen or so jobs to apply for over weekend. He has gotten a lot of positive feedback about his resume. He definitely has quite a bit of experience and education for his age. He's excited about all of the possibilities. Between the career fairs and the SPEA jobs board there were a lot of pIaces for him to find open positions. Although not all of the positions fit his interest I was impressed by the salaries for a starting SPEA graduate student.
In saying that I was also overwhelmed by the amount of work it will take for him to find a position. After starting this process with him I could see how job searching was daunting to Brett when he graduated with his undergrad degree three years ago. It would be easy to spend hours and hours daily weeding through all of the information and job links. Next week he will meet with a not-for-profit recruiter. Hopefully, that will help him in narrowing the job search. Thankfully, I will have more time to help him navigate the search for a career as well.
