For the first time since Labor Day weekend we had a soccer free weekend scheduled. Doug, Meg and I appreciated the down time as it had been a busy time for us all. Meg filled her time by spending the night at Jackie's, hosting a movie night at our house and mini-golfing with Liam. She did join Doug and I for mass on Saturday night and finished several different projects for school and home as well.
Cameron had a soccer game at Lakeland Christian Academy this morning, but was unable to play in it. Instead he spent his day at a confirmation retreat in Fort Wayne with five hundred other students from the diocese. It actually went a lot better than I would have guessed when we first signed up. Cam was only one of two students from his class that went to the retreat. He really enjoys his teacher, so that was no problem for him as it gave him more time to talk about IU football with him on the way. He told me that he appreciated listening to the Catholic speakers and having mass with Bishop Rhodes. Our favorite moment of the day was listening his story of seeing a former classmate from Milford at the retreat. The boy had another student in a headlock while they were leaving. It ended when a teacher got involved, but not before glasses were broken and the boy from Milford got a serious tongue lashing. None of us were surprised as we all knew well this boy's behavior patterns from Cam's early elementary days. We laughed about it over dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings as we were sure that the goal of the confirmation retreat was to build unity among the students, not to leave fighting on the way out.
