One Crazy Trip

What a crazy trip it was to Indiana today.  It started at the Orlando Airport which was absolutely packed with fall break travelers.  The increase in passengers flying this week doubled the time that it took to get through security, left nowhere to sit at the gates and made for really long lines at the restrooms.  Thankfully, I made it to my flight on time, was able to get a smoothie for breakfast and even got my roller bag checked for free. I also was able to find an aisle seat on the plane making the flight a lot more enjoyable.

Since Doug was coming in on a later flight tonight, I decided that I would take the shuttle to Bloomington and let him pick up the rental car as I knew that would make his trip a lot easier.  I definitely regretted that decision when I saw the “shuttle bus.”  It was actually just a passenger van and I spent the next hour and a half crammed in a small seat with my backpack taking up all of my legroom.  Fortunately, I arrived at the IMU safely and had an hour to relax in my room before Cameron got done with his internship.

Cameron was excited to tell me about that he a call that he had received asking him to interview tomorrow morning for an internship that he hadn’t even applied for yet. He really wanted to prepare for that, so we went back to his house for a little while so he could check his email and look for the application. After he was done, we went to Kirkwood and ate dinner at Noodles and Company. I haven’t been there in quite some time and enjoyed the food very much.  We then headed to Dunn Meadow so that he could sign in for a homecoming event for SAB.

I hadn’t seen Dennis James live since Meg and I went in 2019 and was really looking forward to the throw back performance to live radio plays and silent movies.  As we were hurrying to the theater, my shoe got stuck on one of the pavers throwing me face down onto the cement.  My hands, knees and left eye took the brunt of the impact leaving me with a  large lump above my eyebrow.  It was probably the worst fall I had experienced since I was a young child.  Fortunately, the bartender was able to give me some ice for my eye.  Once the auditorium manager found out, she had an EMT check on me at intermission.  I was relieved to hear that I did not have a concussion and was incredibly thankful for the ice pack that she provided.

The show was very good and I was glad that Brett and Karen were able to join Cameron and I.  Dennis James started off with an introduction on how he got started playing the organ and then provided an organ accompaniment for a radio play called “Wax Works” from the 1940s.  It was very good.  The silent movie of the same name started after intermission and was very enjoyable as well.

My crazy day got a little bit crazier when Cameron received a call from the IU police department in the middle of the movie.  Two college students had mistaken his van as their own and had somehow looked their belongings in Cameron’s vehicle.  It made absolutely no sense to any of us, but Cameron had to leave and unlock his van before returning for the second half of the movie.  It was the most bizarre thing that I had ever heard of, but at least the night ended on a high note as we all enjoyed Dennis James and Doug arrived safely with breadsticks in hand shortly afterward.
