The Contemporary

Last spring, Doug and I were talking to Meg about all of the Disney resorts that we had stayed in over the years and which ones were of our favorites.  The Boardwalk was still at the top of the list, but we now had Port Orleans Riverside as number one in the moderate category and Art of Animation as the best value resort.  As we were talking, we realized that there were only four resorts on property that we hadn't stayed at yet including The Riveria, The Yacht Club, The Grand Floridian and The Contemporary.  All four were in the Deluxe category, so it made sense why they weren't on our list, especially with our love of the Boardwalk.  Doug and I decided then that we would make it a goal to stay at all of the rest of the Disney resorts sometime in the near future.

Last month, I noticed that there was a Disney passholder discount in December that would make staying at a Deluxe resort affordable.  I was very excited about that as I loved going to Disney while the Christmas decorations were still up.  Doug agreed that we should try it, and I excitedly booked the Contemporary.  He had just heard from a coworker that their California Grill was one of the best restaurants in Disney, so we made reservations for that as well.

Yesterday, Doug dropped me off at the monorail resort first thing in the morning.  I was very happy to see that our room was ready. Before Doug got back from work, I had explored the Contemporary trying their famed hot chocolate and peppermint; I had also taken a monorail ride to see the Christmas decorations at the Polynesian and the Grand Floridian and had taken a chilly boat ride to Magic Kingdom where I ordered churros for breakfast.  It was very crowded, but I didn't mind as I was there primarily to Christmas shop and enjoy the atmosphere.  I had a lot of fun and found some great Christmas gifts for my family.  Afterward, I ordered lunch at the food court in the Contemporary and loved the turkey club while people watching.

Tonight, I showed Doug around the Contemporary before we went to dinner.  The California Grill was on the top floor of the hotel.  We could see the Christmas lights at Magic Kingdom and at the other resorts.  It was amazing.  Dinner was fantastic.  We each chose an appetizer, main dish and dessert from the menu and enjoyed a drink as well.  The squash I had was fantastic and Doug loved his fish.  Afterward, we took a ride on the monorail and ended the evening back at the resort.  Although The Contemporary didn't move ahead of The Boardwalk, it was a lot of fun to try, and I was very glad that we could check it off of our list.
