When we lived in Syracuse, all of my family knew that I loved feeding the wild birds. We had finch feeders, regular bird feeders, suet feeders, hummingbird feeders and oriole feeders. My favorite was the peanut feeder that woodpeckers would frequent, and blue jays would clean out as soon as I filled it. I spent so much time feeding the various birds, that Meg called me the crazy bird lady, and Doug sang "Tuppence a Bag" from Mary Poppins to me.
My affinity for feeding the birds waned once we moved to Florida. I tried the peanut feeder, but the blue jays never showed up. The suet feeder only attracted the black birds and the size of them scared me too much to have them in my backyard regularly. I didn't even try the other feeders because I was afraid of attracting unwanted animals, especially snakes.
Without feeders, I wasn't sure what to do about my love of feeding the wild birds. I enjoyed watching the egrets that stopped by our home, but they seemed only interested in the bugs that they could find in the yard. I finally just gave up on my hobby and instead filled my home with wooden birds. They were fun to look at high up on the shelf above our front closet and became a favorite of my new decorations. This year while I was putting out my Christmas decorations, I realized that I didn't really want to take the birds down. I also realized that they weren't very festive. I decided that instead of putting them away for the season that I would dress them up. When I told Meg what I was ordering, she laughed at me and quickly changed my nickname to The Crazy Christmas Bird Lady. After putting my Amazon order to use, I couldn't argue with her at all.
