Tonight we attended Jeanette's wake. What a wonderful tribute to her life it was! There was a steady stream of visitors lasting almost four hours. Everyone spoke highly of her, talked about her kindness and marveled at her brave battle these past few months.
We saw family and friends that we hadn't seen in years. There were so many visitors that I had never met before. The Heinisch children and my parents held up well. It was a long night and they knew very few of the well wishes. Ray, Linda, Maury and Emie kept them company for a good portion of the evening. Cal scored big as the funeral home director was a former Culver Military grad. He found a common bond in Cal and ended the evening by giving him an autographed Paul Azinger hat.
The Montavons were able to make it as well as the Knapps and most of Doug's cousins. Flowers were sent by Cam's teachers, Aunt Jan's family, the girls' soccer team and the athletic department. I thought that was lovely. Monsignor Schwartz led the prayer service and time seemed to smelt away. Meg and I both cried. We just can't believe that Jeanette is gone. I will not forget the memory of this night. I am sure Doug and the Heinisch children will not as well.
