Mom realized that Cosmo hadn't been eating much of anything the last two days. Even his beloved green peppers sat untouched. Last night Meg brought him to me and said, "Mom, look how thin Cosmo is." We hoped that maybe bringing him back to our house would pep up his spirits and his appetite, but this afternoon when I checked on him his hay bowl was still full from last nights feeding.
I decided that we may as well try the veterinarian and see what they thought. They had an appointment at 5 p.m., so Mom took him and we met them there after piano. He was thoroughly checked and the vet decided that it must be an infected tooth causing him the problem. They prescribed an antibiotic and baby food until he could eat normally once again.
We gave him his first dose tonight and he took it pretty well. It had all been measured in syringes, so that made it a lot easier. We also had a syringe for the baby food. He didn't take to it right away and Meg wore a lot of it, but after awhile we were able to get a syringe full into him. Hopefully, he will feel better quickly and the chubby guy in this Santa hat will regain his stature.
