Tough Day for Hoosier Football Fans

Today was a big one for Hoosier football fans.  IU was ranked #5 in the nation, but there was a lot of talk about their strength of schedule.  As Ohio State was number 2 in the polls, everyone was speculating on what a win or big loss would do for the Hoosiers.  I was nervous but also excited.  Cameron really thought that they would have a chance against the Buckeyes, and I had learned to listen to what he had to say.  For the first quarter it looked as though he was going to be correct.  IU looked fantastic in the first fifteen minutes of the game and were leading 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.  Unfortunately, the rain and cold winds started toward the end of the half.  IU's punter dropped a snap in the red zone and Ohio State took a 14-7 point lead into the locker room.  The third quarter didn't go much better and soon we were down 28-7 at the end of it.  I stopped being nervous at that point and just enjoyed the fact that we were the talk of the weekend. IU did rally a bit in the fourth quarter but still took the loss at 38-10.  The announcers pointed out that two errors by our punt return team cost us 14 points, and that the rest of our squad did look really good.  Cignetti took the blame for not being prepared for the noise in the stadium.  They were both correct, and I couldn't complain as it had been a lot of fun being the biggest sports story this fall season.

I talked to both Cal and Cameron after the game.  They took the loss very well.  Cal said that it had been such an awesome morning.  They met a few Ohio State donors at the bars that were a lot of fun, and for the first twenty-minutes of the game, he was on top of the world.  Cameron didn't meet any OSU donors, but he did feel the exact same that Cal did.  He had had an awesome twenty-four hours and was glad to be a part of the excitement.  He and Keagan walked through campus after the game, and Cameron bought an Ohio State sweatshirt before they left.  I was very happy for both of my boys and was completely impressed with Cameron's commitment to the football team.  He bought three tickets in August expecting this to be a big game and he was 100% correct.  Hopefully, IU remains in the CFP hunt.  It would be a lot of fun to go to a playoff game this December.
