This year the college football playoff had expanded to twelve teams for the first time ever. There was a lot of talk about IU being in the top twelve as the AP poll had them ranked at number eight this week. I was still a little bit nervous as the announcers kept highlighting the fact that Indiana had the worst strength of schedule out of the top 25 teams. The fact that they had beat their opponents by an average of 33 points per game must have compensated for the weakness of their schedule as the Hoosiers were slated in the ninth spot tonight. We were pleased with the result and happy that IU remained a focus of the announcers and selection committee during the rest of the show. It was unbelievable that our favorite college football was the biggest topic of the first ever twelve team college playoff selection show.
As soon as it was over, we flipped to the news. Doug decided to start with ABC and then try Fox, NBC and CNN for variety. He didn't expect to hear much tonight as the radio shows that he had listened to recently had said that the election would be extremely close and not to expect results before Thursday. I had been telling my children that I really thought that Trump would win easily. I had done a lot of research about the election, watched the debate and had kept track of the polls. I was pretty sure that Harris had no chance of winning but respected that I could definitely be wrong. Brett texted me halfway through the day to let me know that the exit polls were agreeing with me. By 10 p.m., it looked like the results were trending in Trump's favor, but we decided not to stay up all night just in case something changed. We knew from the past two elections to expect the unexpected.
