A New Look Around the House

We made several changes this week to the house that I am already really enjoying. First, I ordered curtains for the piano room and Doug's bedroom at the front of the house. The blinds that were here when we moved in are great for a hurricane as they would stop breaking glass from flying into the house, but for every day practical use, they are just not that functional. They are cumbersome and hard to move up and down. Because of that, I normally just leave them down all day which I have really grown to dislike. Now that we’ve taken down the blinds to save for any potential hurricanes, I can open up the curtains, let the sunshine in, look outside at my palm tree and enjoy the view of the front yard. As an added benefit on cooler days, I can actually open up the windows without any issues. Because I liked them so much, and because Cameron already had curtains in his bedroom, I went ahead and ordered curtains for my bedroom. My blinds are a lot more functional, but I feel like these curtains really match the house and I love having them hang on the wall.

The curtains weren’t the only new addition to the house. In January, we realized that the refrigerator wasn't working correctly. It was fine for just Doug and I, but when there was heavy use, it malfunctioned often. It also started to make a really loud clunking noise when it would turn off. We knew with all of our family coming for Christmas that we definitely needed a more reliable refrigerator. To be honest, I wasn’t sad to get rid of it solely for the fact that I hated the side-by-side refrigerator freezer. The freezer was impractical, and the refrigerator part was too small.

Our new refrigerator was delivered today, and I was incredibly happy. The delivery guys were great and had it set up quickly once they figured out how to get the old one out and the new one in place. I had been extremely worried about the tight spot that the refrigerator was in our kitchen. Thankfully, they were able to take the handles off and slide it through the piano room. They did have to move the piano in order to do so, but once that was done, everything was a breeze. I spent all afternoon today, setting it up and rearranging my refrigerator magnets. It will take a few days for the icemaker to work, but the water is already running. I was very happy as the water and ice in the door was the part that I loved best on the old fridge. In Syracuse we couldn’t connect our refrigerator to a waterline, so we had to make ice the old-fashioned way. I had grown customed to using the door every day here and didn’t want to give that up.

Doug was happy with the new changes, but not quite as much as I was. I appreciated his hard work putting up the curtains and his help in choosing a new fridge. I definitely don’t plan on any big changes anytime soon.
