Today was the Lifestyle Junior Tour partner tourney at Elcona. Cameron played with a friend of his from Nappanee named Earl. They were the second ones off the tee at 7:50 a.m. so we were up and out the door by 6:30. Cam spent some time putting and getting to know the greens before they teed off. He had fun playing with Earl although Cam did not play his best. We worked a lot of controlling his anger and I saw progress by the end of the round.
I really enjoyed walking with Earl's mother. She had the same philosophy as Doug and I did about junior golf. She also thought the caddy idea was a detriment to the tour. She felt that before the boys would interact more and enjoy the day. It seemed to change with the addition of the caddy. I agreed with her and also felt that it was unrealistic for the boys to have caddies as they will not have them in high school or at other junior tourneys.
All in all the day was a good one. Cameron realized that his short game needed some work. He hadn't played much because of camp and the accident and it showed. I was just happy that he was out there competing and enjoying himself. He and Earl didn't have much chance of beating the top two teams, but held their own for a respectable third place finish edging out the fourth place team by one stroke.
