Saying Goodbye to a Legend

The music world received some sad news last week when it was announced that Brian Wilson had died.  Although the rest of our family appreciated his musical talent, Meg took the news the hardest.  She had been a diehard Beach Boys fans for several years now and listened to their music constantly.  She took a Beach Boys History of Rock N Roll class in college and had seen both Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys in concert in the past two years.  Even though he was well into his 80s and had health issues, the news was shocking to her.

Before Meg became the Beach Boys #1 fan, I didn't really know much about the group.  I had listened to their music when I was in preschool as my brother had several of their 45s but didn't really listen much to them again until high school.  The guy that I was dating really liked the group and I heard more of their songs back then.  I tended to enjoy the non-surf music better like "In My Room", "Wouldn't It Be Nice", and "Don't Worry Baby."  When Meg took her class, she introduced me to many more songs and played their most famous album, Pet Sounds, over and over.  Although I never grew to love them like Meg, she did make me appreciate Brian Wilson's musical genius.  Because of that, I am sad that he has passed away.  Thankfully, his music will live on for generations to come (at least in the Heinisch family.)
