Biggest IU Victory Ever

Today was the biggest IU football game of the season.  The Hoosiers were ranked #7 and were playing Oregon who was slotted at #3.  The hype surrounding the game had gained national attention and ESPN's game day had chosen it for its game of the week.  It was a lot of fun spending the morning listening to the announcers talk about the Hoosiers and highlight their players and coach.  Hoosier the Bison made an appearance and one of the hosts even picked IU to win eliciting a deafening number of boos from the Ducks' fans.

I was really nervous about the game today.  I really wanted to IU to win but knew that it was a long shot.  Cal, Cameron and Doug had told me to keep my expectations about the game realistic.  I tried but couldn't.  I really wanted us to look good in the national spotlight as we had been criticized heavily this year for losing big games.  One stat that kept appearing on the screen was our 0-46 record against top five ranked opponents on the road.  It was the longest in the nation.

Thankfully, the Hoosiers came ready to play and today looked the better team.  From start to finish we played well, and our defense was almost unstoppable.  Even a fourth quarter pick six to tie the game didn't shake the team.  IU's offense responded with ten more points of their own, giving IU their best football victory in school history.  It was all the sports media could talk about after the game and all that our family could talk about as well.

The best part about the win today was that Cal got to see it in person. His friend, Brock, had moved to Portland over a year ago and had suggested that Cal, Jayce and the rest of their friends from IU visit him so that they could attend the away game.  At first, Doug and I thought it would be a fun road trip for Cal. We never dreamed that he would get to see one of the best games of the season.  Cal definitely enjoyed it and called several times during and after the game to tell us that he couldn't believe that we won.  Neither could we.
