A House of Winners

For the first time in three years both soccer and tennis started their seasons with a win and I couldn't be more proud.  I went to Cal's match at Manchester.  He and Tim played well at #1 doubles, but couldn't quite pull it off.  They both had some great shots and rallied well.  There were many games to deuce, but their court ended up losing in two sets.  Cal had some of my favorite tennis moments ever tonight.  The first was when the Manchester boys were cheering each other on and Cal yelled, "Go Cal!"  The second was when he hit one of the players in the chest with an overhead winning the point.  He and Tim chest pumped.  Although they weren't able to pull out the win, #2 singles, #3 singles and #2 doubles all won giving Wawasee the win for the first time over Manchester since Cal started high school.

While we were at tennis, Nick and I kept calling Sara Schwartz about girls soccer.  At first we were very nervous - the girls were down 2-1 with 19 minutes to go in the half.  Sara said the girls were controlling the game, but it wasn't until 12 minutes left in the game that they score again tieing it at 2-2.  By the time tennis was over I received the awesome news - they scored with less than 2 minute to go winning by 1.  Doug and Meg were both thrilled.  She played quite a bit of the game and passed very well.  Unfortunately, the JV game was called before she got in for very long because of lightening.  Overall, however, it was a wonderful start to tennis and soccer.  I am hoping that Wednesday brings both their records to 2-0.
