End of the Trimester

The trimester ended for students today.  Cal and Meg have been watching harmony religiously this week to see what their final grades will be.  Meg was hoping for all A's and realized last night that she still had one assignment to finish in IT.  She hurried to complete it and turn it in this morning.  With that she should once again find herself on the Principal's Honor Roll.

Cal has been riding the B- bubble for a couple of weeks in Calculus.  This week he has fluctuated from a 79.57 to a 79.68 to a 79.58.  He told us last night that he had it all under control, but from talking to his teaching he was in complete Heinisch panic mode this morning as he went to her for help during Warrior Time and scrambled to find enough of his homework passes to keep that B-.  He was right, however, as he did have it "all under control" and finished with a 79.52 - a whole .02 above what he needed to maintain the B-.  That leaves him with a 11.0 for the trimester - not too bad considering he has the Dual Credit/AP Calculus, AP US History, Honors English and Spanish III.

I listened tonight as Cal, Alex and Jayce all talked about the end of the trimester - their triumphs and failures.  Alex trumped Cal in that he received a 79.5 in his math class being even closer to the dreaded C+.  Their conversation turned from grades to friendships to basketball.  I could hear them from my bedroom and got a kick out of their friendly banter.  Cal constantly chiding Alex for getting whatever he wants out of the fridge without asking.  Jayce and Cal trying to finish the chocolate milk before Alex could get any and secretly taking his pumpkin seeds every time he got up.  Alex heating up leftovers in the microwave while debating between eating Oreos and Peanut Butter cookies.  I realized as I listened to them talk just how much I love their friendship.  They are truly the best of friends and a great support to one another.  All too soon Alex will be off to college and their lives will change.  Until then I will keep buying Oreos and Chocolate Milk.  It is a small price for the comradery they have built together in our kitchen talking about the battles of life as a high schooler.
